Pottery In Cultures - 9 AM - 10:15 AM
Available spots
Service Description
CLASS DETAILS: The purpose of this class is to show how various cultures, including ancient and contemporary, have used pottery as both a functional and aesthetic part of their lifestyle. Students will learn a variety of techniques used by different cultures as well as work in varying stages of clay. The Spring class will continue where the Fall class left off, with new projects and different cultures. That being said, the Fall class is NOT a prerequisite for the spring class - new students will do just fine jumping in :) Classes will include projects based on the following topics: South American decorative pottery Iranian sgraffito techniques Native American pit fire/raku styles Chinese porcelain African clay masks Bell Beaker coil pots CLASS STRUCTURE Each class will be 75 minutes long (Please make note of this - the class listing states 90 minutes. This is a technical issue as our website only lets us select times in 30 minute increments). The first 20-30 minutes will be a short lesson on a particular culture and style of pottery, followed by an explanation of the day's project. The rest of the time will be spent working on the day's project. CLASS SCHEDULE: Classes will meet on the following Wednesdays for a total of 6 classes. All classes will be held at MeliaPottery at the Fireswamp, 1231 Leo Andrews Rd, Whitesboro, TX 76273. February 5, 19 March 5, 19 April 2, 16 CANCELLATION/MISSING CLASS POLICY: We are only able to schedule these classes based on enrollment for the semester. We do not offer refunds on semester fees for missed classes or cancellations after September 1. We understand sometimes things come up and you have to miss a class. Missing class makes us sad, too! At this time we are not able to offer make up classes if your student misses. NOTE #1: This is not a throwing class. Students will not be working on the potter's wheel. If that's what you're looking for, we offer throwing classes throughout the school year for ages 12+. NOTE #2: This class is geared for first grade and up. Our fall classes had students as young as first grade and as old as 15. We love teaching to a mix of ages! If your child is younger than first grade and still wants to do pottery, check out our Storytime Sculptures classes on Saturday afternoons.
