Course Description

Ceramics is our most comprehensive clay class, designed for students who want to explore both handbuilding and wheel throwing while developing strong technical skills and craftsmanship. Whether your student is brand new to clay or already has experience, we'll meet them where they are and help them grow. Throughout the semester, students will learn the complete ceramic process—from forming and refining pieces to glazing and firing. We'll explore handbuilding techniques such as pinch, coil, and slab construction alongside foundational wheel throwing skills, with an emphasis on creating work that is both beautiful and functional. Along the way, we'll discuss topics like form, proportion, texture, and usability. What makes a mug comfortable to hold? Why do some bowls feel balanced while others wobble? Students will learn not only how to make pottery, but how thoughtful design and craftsmanship elevate their work. This class is designed as a year-long curriculum with different projects and skill development opportunities offered in both fall and spring. Students are welcome to join for a single semester or continue through the full year to deepen their techniques and tackle more advanced projects. Each class is 2 hours long and meets on Thursdays from 1:30-3:30pm. The Fall semester runs August 26 through November 20. The studio will be closed October 21–23 for Fall Break. *For planning purposes, our spring semester will run February - April with one week in March for Spring Break. Registration for the spring semester will open towards the middle-end of fall semester. SUPPLIES Class tuition includes clay, glazing, and firing for all work created during class. All necessary tools are provided, though students are welcome to bring their own favorites if they prefer. PAYMENT INFO A one-time $25 family registration fee applies each semester, regardless of the number of children or classes your family enrolls in. Due to limitations with our online checkout system, the registration fee may appear to be included with each class during checkout. Don't worry—we review all homeschool registrations and will automatically adjust or refund any duplicate registration fees on our end. No action is required from you. The remaining balance may be paid before the first class or split into monthly payments due in August, September, October, and November.
