Service Description
In this hands-on class, students will learn how to sculpt with intention—starting with the core geometric shapes that form the foundation of nearly every sculpture. From there, we’ll explore how to transform those simple forms into more complex figures, animals, faces, and objects, with an emphasis on proportion, texture, and detail. We’ll also focus on working “in the round,” meaning students will learn to create sculptures that look good from every angle—not just the front. It’s about training the eye to think in three dimensions and building the skills to bring that vision to life in clay. Projects may include human or animal figures, textured surfaces (like fur, feathers, or scales), everyday objects, and expressive faces. Whether your student is brand new to sculpture or already experienced, this class is a great space to grow. Class meets once a week for 90 minutes. Students are welcome to continue working at home if they have tools or clay there, but it’s not required. Clay Info: Students will need to purchase clay. You can buy it directly from us—we carry Hammett Clay from Trinity Ceramics (currently about $26 for a 25-lb bag; price may vary with Trinity’s retail price). If you prefer to buy your own clay elsewhere, we recommend Trinity Ceramics in Dallas. Please avoid Amazon clay—the quality and type aren’t always suitable for sculpture. Just check with us before purchasing so we can make sure it’s a good fit. Depending on the size of their sculptures, some students may only need one bag of clay for the semester; others may need a second. Tools: We’ve got a full collection of sculpting tools available in the studio for student use. No need to bring or purchase anything unless your student wants tools for home practice. Payment Info A $25 deposit is required at time of booking to secure your child's spot. The remaining portion can be paid upfront before the first class or can be split monthly ($50/mo) due the first week of September, October, and November, and December.
